Concrete is used extensively throughout the civil infrastructure, but is accompanied by significant life cycle costs. These include costs for its required frequent maintenance and repair as well as societal costs due to environmental damage caused by the manufacture of Portland cement.
Detroit Green Cement (DGC), hybrid magnesium green cement, it is a much more
sustainable alternative to Portland cement.
DGC emits 50% less CO2, uses low cost minerals and
industrial wastes, uses 50% less energy to produce, and
is more durable compared to Portland cement.
DGC also becomes carbon negative over time as it absorbs CO2
which also improves strength. DGC has the largest crack resistance
hence much durable than competing green cements.
It is manufactured using existing
manufacturing processes and equipment. DGC can be mixed, cast, and cured with
common concrete equipment and practice.cement.
